Annavaram

Annavaram is at a distance of 124 kms. from Visakhapatnam and is a sacred pilgrim centre on a hilltop known as Ratnagiri. The presiding deity of Annavaram is Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy. It is believed that when a Vratha is performed in the name of the deity, the devotees' wishes come true. It is estimated that an average of about one lakh Vrathas are performed here every year, largely by couples. It is situated on the banks of the river Pampa.

Appikonda

This is a small village situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal at a distance of 18 kms from Vizag. Kapila Mahamuni is said to have installed the image of Somalingeshwara Swamy in this village. So it is also called Kapilakonda. Formerly, the fisherman inhabitants called it Apilakonda which gradually became Appikonda. It assumed religious importance owing to the existence of a Shiva temple containing a life size Nandhi carved out of black stone. There are also other small temples around the temple but they are covered with sand dunes and their gopurams alone are visible. The temple contains inscriptions of 12th century A.D. These inscriptions mention that this village was granted by a commander in chief of the Cholas for the maintenance of worship in the temple. The shivarathri festival celebrated here is attended by a large number of devotees.

Araku Valley
Araku Valley

About 120 kms from Vizag, this beautiful valley lies on the Eastern Ghats. Inhabited by hill tribes, the valleys are famous for Dhimsa dance which is a unique feature of culture and life of the tribals. The journey to Araku valley on the ghat road, with thick forests on the either side, is itself captivating and awe inspiring.

The horticulture nursery-cum-training centre at Padmapuram and Government Silk farm with mulbery gardens are live examples to better the socio-economic conditions of the tribes.

Bheemunipatnam
Bheemili

One of the finest sea-side drives leads up to this history soaked down. Situated at a distance of 30 kms. from Vizag, it is one of the oldest municiplities in the country having bee established as early as 1861 A.D. Having been a Dutch settlement, you can still see a 17th century fort an a cemetery. The temple of Sri Narasimha Swamy touches the sea.

Borra Caves
90 kms from Visakhapatnam. Borra Caves are located at distance of 90 km from Visakhapatnam. They are spread over the Eastern Ghats and occupy an area of 2 square kilometers. The one-million-year-old Borra Caves are situated at a height 1400 feet above the sea level.
