‘GST Can Make Indian-Made Products Cheaper’

Nirmala Sitharaman Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Govt of India, addressing the Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO) at a city hotel said GST could make Indian-made products cheaper in India than imported products. “Do you know that a south Indian state importing wheat from North India is more costly than importing the same from Australia?  GST can actually make Indian goods cheaper,” she stated replying to a question, ‘Whether the original GST bill was diluted in the process of accommodating various stake holders and whether it is still as effective’, Nirmala replied that no doubt lot of changes had been introduced since the original Bill was tabulated. “But, you see we are democratic country.  We need to take into consideration lot of things,” she said. Nirmala in conversation with Nidhi Swarup, Chairperson of YFLO, said that it was not a bad idea to start an incubation centre only for women.
